Quadcopter Flight Control Board
I designed and built a custom 4-layer flight controller board for my 5-inch FPV racing drones because I wanted a simpler, purpose-built solution than what was available commercially. My goal was to include only the features I actually use, along with a few additions I couldn’t find on off-the-shelf boards. I integrated the receiver module directly onto the board to eliminate extra wiring and reduce potential failure points. I also added RGB LEDs around the perimeter for night racing and designed a simple plug interface for connecting the FPV camera board.
I used JLCPCB to manufacture the boards, which made it easy to get high-quality multilayer PCBs quickly. Once the boards arrived, I assembled the through-hole components myself. The first version worked well, but I went through a couple of design iterations to fine-tune the layout and strengthen the board to withstand the crashes and vibrations common in racing.
The final result is a clean, durable flight controller that does exactly what I need it to—nothing more, nothing less. It’s reliable, easy to service, and purpose-built for the way I fly.
